Greensboro College Scholarship for Juniors and Seniors

Award Level: Full Tuition + Room & Board

Awarded to incoming students with top academic profiles on a rolling basis who demonstrate interest in leadership in religious life on campus and/or a local church. Students are required to major in Religion. Consideration will also be given to students who minor in Religion, Christian Ethics, Biblical Studies, or Ministry. Students are required to participate in a leadership role within Religious Life at Greensboro College.

1st Place Prize: The winning essay finalist will be awarded a full-tuition scholarship to pursue both a major and minor within the Religion, Ethics, and Philosophy Department (School of Humanities) at Greensboro College (pending admissions). The winning essay will be published in “Faith and Culture,” a quarterly publication within the Religion, Ethics, and Philosophy Department at Greensboro College.

Additional Details

Essays must address the church’s nature, message, and ministry in the world. Topics of interest might include (but are not limited to): the relation of church and academy; the church’s missional identity in an increasingly post-Christian context; the political nature of Christian witness; the relation of the Bible to popular culture (film, music, and literature); Jesus and social justice.

Criteria for selection will include:

The relevant nature of the essay; the quality of the research, analysis, and synthesis.
The clarity, coherence, and persuasiveness of the argument, and overall creativity.
Papers must be no more than 10 pages or 3,000 words (12-point font, double-spaced, 1-inch margins) and must follow Kate L. Turabian’s “Manual for Writers of Research Papers, Theses, and Dissertations” (8th edition) with footnotes.
