Greetings from Cary Christian School’s College Counseling Office and Laura Smith. I have been involved in Christian education since 1995 through supporting CCS as a parent, in leadership roles on the CCS PTF, and homeschooling for eleven years. I have been working at CCS since 2016, first as a long-term sub in my favorite subject, history, and then I moved into the full-time Director of College Counseling role.
I have three children; my youngest is a CCS graduate. She is beginning her freshman year at Clemson. Go Tigers! I graduated from Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. I went on to earn my MBA from Hood College in Frederick, Maryland. I am currently working towards my certificate in College Counseling through University of California, Riverside.
I first navigated the college admission process while walking through it with my first two children. Since then I have continued to learn, participating in professional development opportunities and coursework, visiting college campuses, interacting with college professionals, and going to college admission conferences.
As your Director of College Counseling, my overarching goal is to serve the Lord as I help our Rhetoric students open doors for future educational opportunities that will prepare them for careers that will use their gifts and talents to glorify God. How is this done? As students progress from freshmen to seniors, I engage in grade-appropriate instruction and activities that will help position them for their future.
Students will have the opportunity to meet with college reps, hear from professionals in various careers, do online career interest assessments, and more. Please explore this webpage to learn about the opportunities, outcomes, and resources available to our students. You can contact me at LSmith@carychristianschool.org or (919) 303-2560, ext. 248. I look forward to working with you!
